India hockey team for Rio Olympics announced

New Delhi : PR Sreejesh and Sushila chanu will lead the 16-member Indian men's and women's hockey team respectively at the upcoming Rio Olympics which will commence next month, Hockey India president Narinder Batra announced here today.
Also, 27-year-old striker SV Sunil and defender Deepika has been named as the deputy for the men's and women's squad respectively.
In a major setback, the Indian men's hockey team will be travelling to Rio without one of its key defenders Birendra Lakra as he suffered a ligament tear in his right knee during Ranchi Rays’ Hockey India League match against Dabang Mumbai in February this year.

Earlier, Ritu had left the national team's camp for the Rio in Bengaluru as the team management was unhappy with her fitness levels and attitude.
Alongwith Batra, Hockey India vice-president Anurag Thakur, Union Sports minister Vijay Goel and BJP President Amit Shah were also present while the team was being announced for the mega event.
