India beat Belgium 2-1 to lift Jr. hockey World Cup for second time after 15 years

Lucknow: Fulfilling a long cherished dream, Indian Junior hockey players played like a true champion against Belgium in the finals and lifted the Uttar Pradesh Hockey Junior World Cup Men Lucknow 2016 at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium.
This would be the second time India has won the championship.
Last it won the championship 15 years back in Hobart,Australia in 2001.
Belgium who entered the finals for the first time had to be happy with the runners up trophy.
However defending champions Germany defeated Australia by 3-0 to take the Bronze.
Germany was leading by 1-0 in the half time.
Indian Harmanpreet Singh won the Fan Choice award of Rs one lakh while German's Herzbruch got the most promising under 19 player of the tournament.
New Zealand team got the fair play trophy.
Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik and Chief minister Akhikesh Yadav gave away the champion's trophy and the Gold Medals to the Indian players.
Subroto Roy of the Sahara gave the Silver medals to the runners up Belgium team.
During the Interval CM Akhilesh Yadav said that small cuties should be given chance like Lucknow to organise such international tourney to promote the game of Hockey.
UP government was the main sponsor of this championship.
