IGP controversy: UP govt to charge sheet Amitabh Thakur today

amitabh-thakurLucknow, Jul 15 - The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to issue a charge sheet to suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, accusing him of filing PIL in violation of Allahabad High Court order. However, Mr Thakur today announced that he would continue his tirade against the SP government. Mr Thakur and his social activist wife Nutan returned from New Delhi this morning. Mr Thakur said he was not afraid of the harassment by the state government and is ready to fight against them. With arrest of the officer looming large in the rape case, the state government is likely to serve on him, the five page charge sheet seeking explanation on his activities during the past two years time. Sources said the charge sheet seeks explanation on misuse of his post, attending a meeting of a Trust in Noida giving wrong information of his visit, filing petitions in the courts besides visiting the house of slain scribe Jagender in Shahjahanpur. It also seeks the reason for anomalies in his assets between 1992 to 2010. Meanwhile, the Gomtinagar police is also slated to visit Mr Thakur's house to record his statement on the rape charges made against him and his wife. The victim yesterday had recorded her statement before the magistrate alleging that the IPS officer had raped her on December 31, 2014 with the help of his wife Nutan. The sources said police could also go for the arrest of Amitabh if situation arises so, sources said. However, the Hazratganj police will also seek the audio CD from the IPS officer, who had alleged that SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had threatened him on phone. Mr Thakur has filed a complaint with the police over this telephonic talk on July 11. The controversy started after Amitabh and his wife raised the issue of corruption by the UP Mining Minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati with the Lokayukta.
