HC finds affidavit filed on distribution of milk in mid day meal misleading

Allahabad - The Allahabad High Court today expressed it's dissatisfaction over the affidavit filed on distribution of milk every Wednesday under the Mid Day Meal scheme and said that it was misleading.

The bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Verma while hearing the petition of Vijay Kumar Ojha of Kanpur, ordered the Joint Secretary for Basic Education to appear in the court on September 22 and gave the clarification on the misleading affidavit.

The court also ordered Kanpur's District Magistrate that how the distribution of milk is being executed under the governmental schemes. The court has fixed September 22 as the next date of hearing.

According to the affidavit filed from the side of Joint Secretary for Basic Education, a cost of Rs 3.76 was incurring on distribution of milk to each student on Primary Schools while it was Rs 5.64 in the case of students of Secondary Schools.

The Court said the affidavit was misleading because there was no clarification on the issues of cost been incurred on the distribution of 200 millilitre of milks to every student yesterday.

The affidavit also did not mention that from where the government will bring extra funds for the distribution of milk if in case the rate of milk was Rs 32 per litre then the cost of 200 ml would be Rs 8. There are 1674 primary and 822 secondary schools in Kanpur district.
