Free motorized rickshaw to registered rickshaw pullers in UP

images (1)Lucknow, Aug 11 - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has moved a step forward towards fulfilling his promise of providing battery operated rickshaw to rickshaw pullers when state cabinet gave its nod today to the proposal to provide free mechanised rickshaw to registered people in the cities. The state cabinet has approved this proposal in its meeting, Chief Minister told mediapersons after cabinet meeting here. It was on the government's agenda to provide mechanised rickshaw to rickshaw pullers. Under this scheme, the rickshaw pullers would get these rickshaws free of cost. Government has allocated funds in its budget for this scheme. The cabinet has also agreed in principle to waive of VAT on purchase of battery operated rickshaws. A Government spokesperson said the rickshaw owner would have to shell Rs 24,280 for registration, permit and for getting driving licence. Government has decided to procure four seater rickshaws of minimum 850 watt. The Pune based Kinetic Green has been identified to provide the rickshaws. Government will pay Rs 1,37,727 per unit to this company.
