Four new UP legislative council nominated members take oath

lucknow_vidhansabha1Lucknow, Jul 15 - Uttar Pradesh legislative council chairman Ganesh Shanker Pandey today admistered oath to the four nominated members of the upper house here today. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav along with several of his ministerial colleague were present at the function held in the Tilak Hall this morning. The new members who took oath were S R S Yadav, Ms Lilawati Kushwaha, Ramvriksh Singh Yadav and Jitendra Yadav. Later talking to mediapersons the newly-nominated members said they would publicise the achievements of the UP government with strengthening the democratic system in the state. Jitendra Yadav of Bulandshahr is the father-in-law of RLD chief Lalu Prasad’s daughter Ragini, while Leelawati Kushwaha, is the chairperson of Mahila Kalyan Nigam and S R S Yadav is a SP old-timer and Mulayam loyalist. Ramvriksh Singh Yadav is a SP leader from Azamgarh. The term of this nine seats fell vacant on May 25 last and now these members would be the member of the state council for six years. On July 2 last, UP Governor Ram Naik had rejected 5 names out of the total 9 sent by the UP government for the nominations to the upper house. The government had sent the proposal on May 21 last and it took the Rajbawan around one and a half months time to clear four names. The governor had refused to give his approval on the names of Dr Kamlesh Kumar Pathak, Sanjay Seth, Ranvijay Singh,Abdul Sarfraz Khan and Dr Rajpal Kashyap and have returned back their applications to the government. The governor has asked the CM to recommend the names for the nominated MLC posts of the people ,who had excelled in the field of literature, science and art. Rajbhawan had also sought detail bio-data of the candidates including their crime record, their conviction or punishment. Secondly, they have been asked to give detail bank loan of the candidates and whether they are defaulter or not.Thirdly and the important querry sought by the governor is in which field these candidates have excelled or made their contributions. The governor has asked the CM to select the candidates on the letter and spirit of Article 171(E) along with Article 171(5) of the Constitution.
