Flood situation in Bihar aggravates further, toll rises to 19


Patna : Even as more than 1.8 million people reeled under flood fury in 12 districts of Bihar, furious Ganga and its tributary Sone continued to swell along their course following huge discharge of water release from Indrapuri barrage on Sone river today. State Disaster Management Department Vyasji told UNI that 4.81 lakh cusecs of water had been released from the barrage aggravating the situation in the riverine areas of Ganga basin. A Begusarai report said vast areas in the district had been inundated by river Ganga following release of water from the barrage. The river had yesterday breached its embankment in Khagaria district rendering thousands of people homeless. Mr Vyasji said 19 people had perished in the fresh bout of floods so far with Bhojpur district reporting the highest number of 11 deaths followed by six deaths in Vaishali district.
