Fake Excise Officer, two others held in cheating case

Hubballi: A fake Excise officer who duped many people and swindled Rs 9 lakh by threatening was arrested by the police. The accused has been identified as Shivalingappa Patil (58) of Sholapur in Maharashtra. The police also arrested another person who was assisting the main accused and identified as Shyam Kabade of Old Hubballi area and the third person Ramesh Irappa Malagi, Police Commissioner Pandurang Rane told newsmen here today. He said all the three people approached one mobile dealer Deeparam Purohit convincing him that they would facilitate him to avail license as per Government order. They also got from him Rs 9.25 lakh to get the license. They showed a fake Government order printed in an affidavit paper. Rajpurohit who believed their version gave them the demanded money, Mr Rane informed. Later on coming to know that all these men were swindlers and filed a complaint in Town police station of Hubballi city. Circle Inspector of Police Shivanand chalavadi and his men who took up the came for investigation managed to arrest all of them from Sholapur. They have recovered Rs 1.08 lakh from them along with uniform usually worn by the Excise officials.
