New Delhi:  National Green Tribunal Chairperson Justice Swantanter Kumar today applauded the efforts of NDMC for treating sewage in an environmentally sustainable manner and that of the horticulture department of the agency for the excellent upkeep of the green areas in the capital. At the inauguration of the Sewerage Treatment Plant at Nehru Park, Mr Kumar said, 'Totally impressed with the sustainable practices being adopted by the Council.The decentralised sewerage treatment plant is exceptionally good. Use of such simple technologies and cost effective methods will not only preserve the environment but also enrich it. Therefore, I request other local bodies of Delhi and the country to study this model for replication.' Justice Kumar further said," The climate change has posed a great threat not only to the mankind but to all the creatures of the universe. Deforestation and human greed are the causes for it. Man depends on nature and not the vice-versa therefore, it is our foremost duty and responsibility to protect water, air and greenery from any kind of pollution. The Constitution of India too asks every citizen to maintain ecological balance". Speaking on the occasion, NDMC Chairman Naresh Kumar informed that in order to conserve resources in New Delhi area, NDMC has decided to set-up 10 decentralised Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Explaining the USP of the STP setup today at Nehru Park, Mr Naresh Kumar said," the plant is based on Green Technology namely Solid Bio-Technology which is one of its kind and has many benefits like no noise pollution, no air pollution, no odour nuisance, no Voice of the Customer (VoC) emotion generated.' He further said ,'NDMC had earlier setup a first of its kind STP in New Delhi area which is based on MBR (Membrane Bio-Reactor) Technology at Shanti Path, Moti Bagh.' The NDMC Chairman also informed that nine decentralilsed STPs will be completed within one month's time. Total 10 STPs on PPP model will be completed within this year. This Sewerage Treatment Plant having the capacity of 500 KLD has been constructed by New Delhi Municipal Council.
