EVM stands for 'Every Vote Modi': UP CM

Lucknow:  With Opposition raking up the EVM tampering issue frequently, now Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has raked up another controversy by announcing that EVM stands for 'Every Vote Modi'. The Chief Minister while addressing a party workers in Gorakhpur yesterday, had said the results of Delhi civic body elections have given a befitting reply to those raising questions about these machines, and people have shown that EVM stands for 'Every Vote Modi'. Mr Adityanath's swipe was apparently aimed not just at the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP, but also at the SP and the BSP who have been raising questions about the EVMs after the BJP won a three-fourths majority in the recent UP Assembly elections. Mr Adityanath is on a two-day visit to Gorakhpur and his comment on the EVM would certainly draw criticism from the Opposition parties. Yesterday, former CM Akhilesh Yadav too again raked up the EVM tampering issue and even linked it with the tampering of the petrol pumps, unearthed by the UP STF two days back. Mr Akhilesh Yadav had been demanding that future elections be held through ballot papers as the EVMs were not reliable. "When petrol pumps can be tampered through an electronic chip then why cannot it be done in the EVMs," he had claimed. Similar views were also presented by BSP supremo Mayawati, who had even filed a petition in the court and also held a country wide protest on April 11.
