Lucknow: Election Commission has started preparation for the crucial assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh early next year hence a team of officials of the EC would be visiting Lucknow next week. Newly-appointed Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh T Venkatesh, who took the charge of the post today, told reporters here that a team of senior official from the EC would be visiting Lucknow in August 3-4 to assess the mode of preparation to be taken for conducting peaceful, transparent and impartial assembly elections in the state. Mr Venkatesh, a 1988 batch IAS officer of UP cadre said that the revision of electoral rolls are already underway in the state since April 1 last.
" Election commission is committed for a free and fair polls in the state and all necessary arrangements would be made accordingly," he added. However the CEO clarified that the UP assembly polls would be held as per the schedule. He didn't give any specific month for the polls. The announcement for the UP assembly polls for 2012 was announced on December 24,2011 and it was held in seven phases between February and March.
