EC issues notification for Aug 5 Vice-Prez election


New Delhi: The process for the election to the Vice-President kicked off today with the Election Commission issuing a notification for the election scheduled to be held on August 5. The last date for filing of nomination for the Vice Presidential election is July 18 and the date of polling if required, will take place on August 5, according to Shumsher K Sheriff, Secretary-General of Rajya Sabha, who has been appointed as the Returning Officer for the poll. The Election Commission vide a notification had appointed Mukul Pande, Additional Secretary and Rohtas, Joint Secretary, Rajya Sabha Secretariat as Assistant Returning Officers. According to the a statement, candidate or any one of his proposers or seconders can deliver his nomination papers at the Returning Officer’s office in Room No 29, Ground Floor, Parliament House, New Delhi, or if he is unavoidably absent, to the Assistant Returning Officers at the said office between 1100 hrs and 1500 hrs on any day (other than a public holiday) not later than the July 18. Each nomination paper will be accompanied by a certified copy of the entry relating to the candidate in the electoral roll for the Parliamentary constituency in which the candidate is registered as an elector.
