Jammu, Dec 26 - One person died due to heart attack in Poonch district when high intensity earthquake jolted Jammu region and other parts of northern India.
Police sources said that Jareed Ahmad (35), a resident of Harni Gulhata area under Gursai police station, suffered a massive heart attack when he was rushing out from the house with his children. He died later on.
People rushed out of their houses during midnight despite harsh cold conditions when earthquake of 6.5 magnitude hit the Jammu region at 12:47 am.
Intensity of the quake was 6.5 magnitude on Richter scale and Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan was the epicentre, a police spokesperson in the control room said. He said that the tremors were of high intensity following which people rushed out of their houses.
Tremors were also felt in Rajouri, Reasi, Katra, Doda and other districts of the region, said the spokesperson.
Meanwhile, people were seen calling to their relatives and closed ones to inquire about their well-being. However, quake also rocked the Kashmir Valley where the intensity of the tremors was high.
