Diarrhoea claims 5 lives in Barwani, 140 affected


Barwani, MP :  Five people have died and nearly 140 others affected due to Diarrhoea in about a dozen villages in Khetia town, health officials said. Pansemal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Deewan Singh Patel said the reason behind the spread of Diarrhoea is not known and that he has demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter. He said hospitals in Khetia and Pansemal needed efficient doctors and medical staff. Chief Medical and Health Officer Rajni Dabar said a four-month-old malnutritioned child, who was affected with diarrhoea, succumbed while being taken to hospital yesterday. Likewise, one Deepak Choudhary (23) had died due to the disease on Saturday. He had gone to take admission in a government hospital in Khetia but was advised against it. So far, 76 people are receiving treatment at various hospitals. Collector Tejaswi Nayak said food samples had been collected from 12 hotels and water samples from 37 water resources and sent for examination to ascertain the cause of outbreak. Two hotels have been sealed. Meanwhile, Congress legislator and Deputy Leader of Opposition Bala Bachchan has described it as a result of negligence of the administration and the Health Department. He alleged that health services are in disarray in the state.
