Raipur: Chhattisgarh State Commission for Women (CSCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports about a woman constable accusing Inspector General of Police (Bilaspur Range) Pawan Dev of indulging in obscene conversation with her on telephone and harassing her. “The complaint sent by the woman constable through post has not been received yet. However, the Commission has begun investigation based on media reports and my interaction with the victim through a news channel,” CSCW chairperson Harshita Pandey told media here. Replying to a query about the IG terming the audio tape as fake, she said that the veracity of the audio tape would be examined and the impartiality of probe would be ensured. Meanwhile, the IG has claimed that the woman constable had close relationship with expelled Sub-Inspector Ashish Vasnik.
Her complaint comes two days after his expulsion. Besides, she had charged the Lormi Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of sexual assault earlier. Yesterday, the victim constable told media that she had initially received a telephone call from the IG for acting as her informer for Mungeli. However, he later began calling in midnight and indulging in obscene conversations and used to ask her to come at her house and threaten her to suspend or transfer her on refusal. She said that the senior police officer had begun calling her more often since the past fortnight and had recorded the conversation, which she played before mediapersons. The victim said that she was quite upset and even thought of committing suicide once.
