CPI(M) Central Committee member questioned by CBI in Rose Valley case

Agartala:  At least two-weeks before interrogating Tripura's Social Welfare Minister Bijita Nath in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund scam on June 29 last, CBI had questioned CPI(M) Central Committee member and the party spokesperson Goutam Das on the same case. Reacting on a media report, Goutam Das last night in a statement said that CBI officials contacted him from Kolkata on June 15 last seeking a convenient schedule to record his statement in connection with a case of Rose Valley. On the next day, an additional superintendent of police and an inspector of CBI questioned him the party’s mouthpiece office and recorded his statement under section 160 of CrPC in presence of his lawyer, Das stated. He reiterated the claim that he was not involved in Rose Valley or any other scam. “The CBI inspector has issued me the certificate stating I had co-operated in the investigation. Before coming, CBI sent me a notice for recording the statement as a witness of a case. But I am surprised neither me nor my advocate divulge it to anybody how it was leaked to media,” Das pointed out. The statement of Das has triggered reaction in the political circle while CPI(M) has not reacted over it. The opposition BJP and Trinamool Congress expressed satisfaction over CBI and demanded to expedite the process of investigation to ensure the return of the deposits of 14 lakh victims. BJP vice president Subal Bhowmik stated that in the multi crore Rose Valley scam, not only minister Bijita Nath and Goutam Das are involved, many big fishes are in the CBI scan and said, “The statement of Das has proved that CBI has given importance to the case and with this involvement of CPI(M) party with chit fund companies is established. Trinamool Congress legislator Sudip Roy Barman stated that out of 40 lakh people in Tripura, CBI found a CPI(M) top leader and a minister potential in the investigation of the case, which clearly indicated that CBI is moving into right track to catch the actual culprits. “Goutam Das was the editor of their party mouthpiece for many years and still he enjoyed the privileges of journalist even then he was questioning media how it was leaked that shows the nervousness of CPI(M) in Rose Valley issue. We feel CBI has to prioritise the case to expose the CPI(M) link with Ponzy firms,” Roy Barman underlined. Moving further to the issue, TMC MLA stated that Das was suspected for long time for his link with unscrupulous elements in Bangladesh, fraudulent companies and organisations and his association with several non banking financial companies taking the advantage of his journalist tag. “Das is needed to be grilled extensively to verify all the allegations raised against him for past many years and the party has to clear it’s stand over the allegations against him,” Roy Barman added.
