Court issues summons against Lalit Modi in Haveli purchase case

LKMJaipur, Jul 21-A lower court here has issued summons to former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, wife Minal Modi, uncle Sajjan Kumar Modi and Satya Narayan Singh, a director of his company Heritage City Construction Pvt Ltd in connection with the purchase of two havelis at Amer by fraudulent means which were government properties. All these were directors of the company Heritage City Construction Pvt Ltd which was mooted by Lalit Modi later renamed as Ananda Heritage Pvt Ltd. The Additional district court (1) has issued summons on a revision petition by Sandeep Bhatra. Since Lalit Modi is now an absconder, the court directed that the summons be published in the newspapers and was returnable by September 3. According to the petition Mr Modi had purchased two havelis at Amer for Rs nine lakh, Rs 21 lakh each in 2007 after mooting a company named Heritage City Construction Pvt Ltd during the previous BJP government under Vasundhara Raje neglecting the archeological department order that these properties belong to the government and could not be registered. Despite the order, Lalit Modi’s company purchased two havelis one from Bhattacharya family who was only an occupant of the haveli as the property was of the government. Though the petitioner had approached the court with the same complaint earlier in 2010 it was dismissed on the ground that the matter is being investigated by the anti-corruption department. Soon after the Congress government came to power under Ashok Gehlot the government had taken over the two havelis. Now the petitioner had approached the court for initiating criminal proceedings against Lalit Modi and company for purchasing the property by fraudulent means. Proceedings against seven others are in process.
