Congress demands rejection of proposal to develop marinas in Goa

Panaji :  The opposition Congress in Goa today demanded that the Investment Promotion Board (IPB) immediately reject the application for marinas to come up in South Goa. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarter in the city, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) general secretary
and spokesperson Trajano D'Mello said, ''Through a Rights to Inquiry we have come to know that two marinas are under consideration of IPB. Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) will do the dredging. We demand that the IPB reject the proposal for the marinas to be developed in view of an order passed by National Green Tribunal (NGT).'' Claiming that MPT had assured the government that it would make sure that there was no fishing lane near a jetty in Vasco, he alleged that government was becoming partner in destruction of environment and every time NGT had to interfere. ''Every time it is being seen that NGT has to interfere. If it is so then why should we require a government?'' he asked. He alleged that the land where marinas were to be developed had been given at cheaper rates as the government was not following laws.
