CM Mehbooba files nomination papers for Anantnag Assembly seat

Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today filed her nomination papers for Anantnag Assembly constituency, where bye-poll will be held on June 19. The main opposition National Conference (NC) has fielded Iftikhar Hussain Misgar and Hilal Ahmad Shah is seeking election on Congress ticket in the constituency where bye-polls was necessitated following the death of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7 at AIIMS, New Delhi. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) an alliance partner in the Mehbooba led government in the state has decided to support her in the polls. Ms Mehbooba accompanied by a number of party leaders presented her nomination paper in the office of Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, who is also Returning Officer(RO). She is presently representing Anantnag Lok Sabha seat in the Lok Sabha. The seat was represented by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mr Mufti, father of Mehbooba during the last consecutive polls in 2008 and 2014 elections.
