Clashes erupt at various places after Friday prayers in Kashmir

Srinagar:  Security forces resorted to aerial firing and burst teargas shells at various places in Kashmir to disperse demonstrators, protesting against killing of a civilian in Shopian on Tuesday. Hundreds of protestors took to streets at main Pulwama chowk in south Kashmir after Friday prayers were over against the killing of a youth, Adil Farooq, in security force firing. However, security forces deployed in the area burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators, who were pelting stones. As bursting of teargas shells had no affect on the slogan shouting protestors, the security forces resorted to aerial firing to disperse the demonstrators, who were demanding action against security personnel responsible for the youth's death. Meanwhile, massive clashes also erupted after Friday prayers were over at Jamia Masjid in Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla. When the agitators tried to take out a protest march, security forces deployed in the area burst teargas shells to disperse the stone pelting protestors. Similar clashes were reported from some other parts of the valley, including Hajin in Bandipora, Anantnag main town and Sarai-Bala in Srinagar.
