Chidambaram defends Rahul's meeting with kin of farmers killed in Mandsaur firing

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram today defended the visit of party Vice President Rahul Gandhi to Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, to meet with the kin of farmers killed in police firing.
In a series of tweets, Mr Chidambaram slammed the Shivraj Singh government for refusing dialogue with the peasants and for lying that police did not fire on the ryots.
'Why did the MP government lie that police did not fire on the farmers? The MP CM alleges havoc and pleads for dialogue.
Whose police caused havoc? Who refused dialogue with the peasants?,' Mr Chidambaram tweeted.
On the BJP charging the Congress and its Vice President Rahul Gandhi of politicising the issue by visiting Mandsaur to meet with the kin of farmers killed in police firing, Mr Chidambaram said, 'What is unusual in Opposition leaders meeting the victims of police firing? Have not BJP leaders done the same?' Mr Gandhi had yesterday visited Mandsaur to meet the kin of farmers killed in police firing.
