CBI takes over ambulance scam probe against ex-Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot

New Delhi, Aug 29 - The CBI has taken over the investigation of the 2009 ambulance scam which includes the names of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot and some other members of the Congress party.

The son of the former Cabinet minister Vayalar Ravi, Ravi Krishna, and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Mr Karti Chidambaram were among the other names that have been included in the scam.

In 2009, a company named Ziqitza Healthcare was selected to operate ambulances across the state in partnership with the government for rural areas without access to hospitals or clinics.

Mr Gehlot was then the Chief Minister of state. Ziqitza was said to be run by Ravi Krishna, the son of then union minister Vayalar Ravi. The BJP alleged that there were some irregularities in the financial matter of the ambulance services which were later found in the audit report. But no action was taken as Mr Sachin Pilot and Mr Karti Chidambaram were the directors of Ziqita.

Since last year, the BJP had been demanding a CBI probe against the Congress leaders for their alleged involvement in the ambulance scam in which Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje asked for the CBI investigations against Mr Gehlot and some other members of the Congress.
