Last rites of 1st woman president of UP Bar Council, shot dead by lawyer, performed

Etah, The last rites of first woman president of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council Darvesh Yadav, who was shot dead by another lawyer on the Agra civil court premises, was performed at her native village on Thursday. The cremation was done at Chandpur Thauroli village in Malavan area of the district. Parth Yadav, nephew of the deceased lawyer, lit the pyre in presence of other family members. UP Law Minister Brajesh Pathak, who was present during the cremation, announced that the government will provide adequate security to the lawyers on the court premises. He said that a high-level probe has been ordered and the guilty will not be spared. "The criminals in the state are living in fear and more stringent security system would be placed in all the courts to prevent any such incident," the Minister said. Ms Yadav was shot dead in the Agra civil court premises when she was sitting in a lawyer's chamber after attending her felicitation programme on Wednesday.

Ms Yadav was shot dead by her colleague and lawyer Manish Babu Sharma inside the chamber of one senior lawyer Arvind Kumar Mishra. Later, the assailant himself tried to commit suicide by firing from his licensed revolver. Police here said that Ms Yadav died on the spot after being hit by three bullets while Manish was admitted to a private hospital with bullet injuries and later shifted to Medanta in Gurugram in critical condition. Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Ajay Anand, along with senior policemen, rushed to the spot though reason behind the crime is yet to be known. Mr Anand said that police was investigating the incident and hinted that it could be the fallout of some personal enmity. Functioning in almost all the courts in the state was paraylsed on Thursday after lawyers boycotted the courts. The Bar Council of India has expressed grief over the incident and has demanded adequate security for the office bearers of the Bar Council. They also demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation for the deceased. On Sunday last, Ms Yadav along with Harishanker Singh of Varanasi were jointly elected president of the UP Bar Council in Prayagraj. Both of them received 12 votes each. She was the first woman president of the UP Bar Council. As per the agreement, Ms Singh was given the post for the first six months while Harishanker was supposed to be president for the next six months.
