Trust deficit between BSP and Congress may increase

Lucknow,:The distance between the BSP and the Congress is likely to increase before the general elections in Uttar pradesh. This assessment is based two main reasons.First, attempt by the party to come closer to Chandrashekhar Azad who is trying to emerge as a Dalit leader in the state.BSP chief Mayawati's dislike for him is well known. She has publicly denounced him when he had called her his "bua" a few month ago.On many occasions he has fought for Dalit causes and been sent to jail more than once.He is still fighting for them .His area of operation at present is limited to saharanpur ,but he is getting support of alll those in the party who are not happy with Mayawati.Still, new Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met him the other day and inquired about his health. It cannot be pleasing to Mayawati especially because it was not an isolated development. The Congress had tried to woo Dalits in three heartland states where polls were held recently.Insiders say that many of them had supported the Congress which had contributed to the party's victory. It may be for this reason that Mayawati's attack on the Congress became strident after the poll.

She outrightly rejected the proposal to bring in Congress to three-party alliance in the state. The Congress, instead of trying of please her and make amends, has hit back.It has given one more reason for her annoyance. The second reason is that some of the BSP rebels have been welcomed by the party.A few of them are likely to be given tickets.Prominent among those who have joined the Congress recently include some Muslims who had fought on BSP symbols in previous polls. It is rather strange because she had given the maximum number of seats to members of the community in the Assembly elections in UP in 2017.Mentionmay be made of Kaisar Jahan in this connection.A candidate of the party for Sitapur seat, she had lost the election and has now joined the BJP.She was ,however, not alone. All BSP candidates had lost in 2014 .Shahid Akhlaq is another person who had fought election for the party in the past. He had contested for the party from Meerut and may be given ticket by the Congress this time.Three other BSP candidates who had fought general in the past have embraced the Congress. Brajlal Khabri who lost 2014 Lok Sabha election is one of them. All this will make the upcoming general elections in UP more interesting.
