Maneka, boxer Mary Kom flag off 2nd edition of HAUSLA sports meet

New Delhi, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi on Wednesday flagged off the HAUSLA-2018 Sports Meet, an inter-Child Care Institution (CCI) festival, in the presence of Mary Kom, Indian Olympic boxer and Rajya Sabha Member, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here. Addressing the participants at the national sporting event for children living in child-care institutions, the minister appreciated the presence of Mary Kom -- 'a national treasure' -- to inspire and motivate the children from CCIs to aim higher like her in their lives. More than 600 children drawn from CCIs from 16 states are participating in the various events being held at the national sporting event for children living in child-care institutions, which is part of HAUSLA-2018, like painting competition, athletics meet, football, chess competition and speech writing.

Athletics meet, chess competition and football matches for boys and girls from CCIs are being held on November 28-29 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here. Talking about the safe neighbourhood campaign of her ministry, Ms Gandhi said it was very important that all the parents, teachers and guardians should know that the government has provided platforms like ChildLine, e-Box for raising their grievance of any kind pertaining to child sexual abuse and harassment. WCD Secretary Rakesh Srivastava, delivering the welcome address, said he has requested sports authorities to be present at the sports meet so that they can witness the sporting talent of children from CCIs and if possible provide them a higher platform to perform better. Administering the Hausla oath on the occasion, Mary Kom said "I shall compete in the true spirit of sportsmanship for the honour of my institution, my state and for the glory of sports.'
