Drug peddler, bootlegger from Punjab arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have arrested a notorious drug smuggler and recovered charas in central Kashmir district of Budgam, a police spokesman said on Friday. A resident from Punjab was arrested with illicit liquor on Srinagar outskirts during a naka checking. The spokesman said a naka checking was established at Nasarullahpora in Badgam district. During the naka, a notorious drug peddler identified as Abdul Hamid Mir alias Hamid Bhagwan, a local resident was arrested after charas was recovered from his possession. He said a case FIR Number 244/2019 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Budgam and investigation has been taken up. He said during a naka checking at New Bypass, Nowgam, on the city outskirts police intercepted a scooty with Punjab number. During the search, police recovered 12 bottles of illicit liquor. The bootlegger identified as Rajveer Singh, resident of Payal, Ludhiana, Punjab, was arrested. He said in this connection, case FIR No.72/19 U/s 48/50 Excise Act was registered and investigation taken up. ''Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,'' he said, adding ''Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.''
