T R Zeliang takes oath as Chief Minister


Kohima: In a sudden political development, Nagaland Governor P B Acharya today dismissed Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu and handed over the baton to Mr T R Zeliang. Mr Acharya yesterday asked Nagaland Assembly Speaker Imtiwapang Aier to convene an emergent special session of the Legislative Assembly to prove the confidence in the floor of the House. Accordingly, the Assembly Speaker convened the session, which was attended by 48 Legislators supporting Mr Zeliang, but Dr Shurhozelie and his supporters were absent from the House. The Speaker informed the House that in absence of the Chief Minister no proceeding could be moved and he will report the matter to the Governor and subsequently adjourned the Assembly Session sine die. After receiving the report from the Speaker, the Governor dismissed Dr Shurhozelie and invited Mr Zeliang to take over as the Chief Minister. In a simple function at the Raj Bhavan, the Governor administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Zeliang as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland.
