Congress candidate takes decisive lead over BJP in Jayanagar Assembly constituency

Bengaluru: Congress candidate Soumya Reddy ran up a comfortable over 13,000 votes lead over BJP candidate B N Prahlad Babu in the Jayanagar Assembly Constituency in the city for which the counting was taken up amid tight security on Wednesday. At the end of the 11th round Ms Reddy's win was all sealed up as she had garnered over 43,467 votes to BJP candidates 30,600 votes while independent Ravikant Reddy and others were far behind and are set to lose their deposits.

The election to Jayanagar constituency was deferred by the Election Commission before the May 12 Assembly elections in Karnataka following the death of sitting member of BJP candidate B N Vijayakumar who had twice won this seat. While Mr Babu is the brother of Mr Vijayakumar, Ms Reddy is the daughter former minister and BTM constituency MLA R Ramalinga Reddy.
