Sonia, Rahul should apologise to country for defaming Hindus globally: BJP

New Delhi: BJP said on Tuesday that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and party president Rahul Gandhi will have to apologise to the Hindu community of India for defaming them globally and taking Hindus for granted.
Addressing a press conference, party's spokesperson Sambit Patra and GVL Narasimha Rao said .'BJP had demanded apology from Ms Gandhi and Mr Gandhi from the country for coining the term 'Hindu terrorism' and 'saffron terrorism'.
Dr Patra said Mr Gandhi has exposed 'his party's anti Hindu thinking' when Mr Gandhi had told US Ambassador on July 20, 2009 that 'Home grown Hindu extremist groups are bigger threat than terror outfit LeT'.
'If Congress considers India to be its own, then Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi must apologise to the whole country for defaming the great Hindu religion by trying to prove that there was something called 'saffron terror', he said
After the Mecca Masjid verdict on Monday in which all the accused were set free, the BJP, Dr Patra said, never questions or comments on court's judgement and fully trusts the judiciary of the country.
Dr Patra said they came to know from media that Congress leaders in a press conference have asked for evidence showing that Mr Gandhi or any party functionary had used the term 'saffron terror' and that 'there was no such thing as saffron rerror'.
Dr Patra said he accepted the challenge and showed to the media thew Wikileaks telegram with all the details. He said on August 3, 2009, United States Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer had signed the telegram, and sent to the US state department.
'In a candid conversation during a lunch which was hosted by by then PM Mamohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi was seated next to Mr Roemer. In para 5c, responding about activities of Lashkar-e-Taiba in the region, Mr Gandhi has said there was some support in certain groups of India's indigenous community, however, there was the risk of a homegrown Hindu activists in the country reacting to terror attacks from Pakistan.
'Mr Roemer says Mr Gandhi was referring to tensions created by polarising figures in the BJP such as Gujarat CM Narendra Modi in July 2009 during the conversation.' Dr Patra said, adding that this had happened just one year after LeT carried out 26/11 Mumbai terror attack in 2008.
In Sharm El Sheikh, providing ammunition to Pakistan and demeaning 26/11 and giving escape route to the LeT, that it was not a big threat, Mr Gandhi will have to give an answer, Dr Patra said, adding that they have given the proof of Congress' biggest leader.
It was an important dinner, a solemn occasion and important conversation, the BJP leader said.
'Rahul can't pass the buck. He was number 2 in the party. His words carried seriousness and mass,' he said.Demanding an answer from the Congress, Dr Patra said P Chidambaram must answer, as he signed in all the cases. He challenged Mr Gandhi and and Mr Chidambaram to hold a press conference and speak out now that 'we have given proofs'.
Videos were shown for proof with senior Congress leaders giving statements. 'Don't take the Hindus for granted. We reiterate our stand to that Congress leaders should aplogise for having defaming Hindus globally,' he said.
Mr Rao said in the Congress list of candidates for Karnataka assembly elections, one of the candidate has connections with absconding businessman Mehul Choksi.
Recalling earlier events, Mr Rao said in September 2013, Mr Gandhi was involved in Geetanjali jewels promotions, Choksi's company. A few days later, Director of Allahabad Bank was sacked because he highlighted certain lacunae. In another case, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Sanghvi's wife bought jewellery for Rs 5 cr with unaccounted payment.
Mr Rao said HS Chandramouli (being fielded from Madikeri) was legal consultant to Mehul Choksi in Bangalore in a cheating case. A criminal complaint was filed against him which was later changed to civil complaint.
Chandramowli was also legal consultant to K J George, accused in a death case, wherein the SC sought an investigation.'Congress ka haath, Mehul Choksi ke saath. If there are multiple coincidences in politics then its a conspiracy,' he said.
'Choksi is treated as the third son-in -law after Robert Vadra and Vijay Mallya, (wanted in India on charges of fraud and money laundering).'He demanded that Congress should tell whether all this is sheer coincidence that links of Choksi with Karnataka government have emerged.
In the Kathua case, Mr Rao said BJP has shown its sincerity and commitment and at political level taken action against its own members. BJP demands that action be taken against JK Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir and he be sacked.
J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu President B S Slathia and others who tried to protect the accused should be sacked by the government, he said.
Record of Crime against women in 5 years of Congress in Karnataka was appalling and pathetic, he said.According to NCRB data 2018, Congress made Bangalore third most unsafe city in 18 cities where crime increased by 28 per cent in one year. Charging that that the Karnataka government has failed in maintaining peace in a peaceful city like Bangalore, he asked ' whether Mr Gandhi would apologise and hold a candlelight march there'. Mr Gandhi should stop indulging in politics of of tokenism, he said.
