Congress MPs stage walkout in Lok Sabha demanding loan waiver for farmers

New Delhi: Congress Members led by Congress president Sonia Gandhi today staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha protesting against government's alleged "indifference" to the farmers-related issue and demanded that the centre should announce a farm loan waiver at the earliest. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Congress Member Deepender Singh Hooda said while the House has debated on the farm distress on July 19, the Members of his party were not satisfied with the response of Agriculture Minster Radha Mohan Singh. But he was quickly countered by several ruling party members including Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, who wanted to know why the Congress members were not present in the House till 2230 hrs when the House took up the general discussion on the agrarian crisis on Wednesday, July 19. "You all are not genuinely concerned about the farmers...you are only shedding crocodile tears," Mr Kumar alleged. Several Congress members including Sushmita Dev, Rajesh Ranjan and Rajeev Shankarrao Satav rushed to the Well. Mr Hooda said the government should immediately announce a loan waiver and the Congress Members staged a walkout.
