Centre should seek detailed report on lawlessness in Himachal Pradesh: BJP

New Delhi: The BJP leaders from Himachal Pradesh including Union Health Minister J P Nadda have urged Home Minister Rajnath Singh to take cognizance of general law and order failure in Himachal Pradesh and also over a gangrape in Kothkali area of Shimla district and seek a detailed report from the Congress government in the state. "We have sought central intervention. The issue is serious and the state government is not doing anything," BJP leader and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur said here. Members of Parliament (MPs) from BJP in Himachal Pradesh have also demanded the Centre to impose President's Rule in the state. The delegation that met Home Minister also included Shanta Kumar, Virender Kashyap and Ram Swaroop Sharma besides Mr Thakur and Mr Nadda. Mr Anurag Thakur had also raised it in Lok Sabha during zero hour yesterday and sought fast-track investigation by CBI. 'The victim was a 16-year-old young girl and the tragic incident happened with her, while she was returning home from school," he said. The BJP leaders also said that the state government has agreed to refer the matter to the CBI only after succumbing to public pressure. Shimla MP Virender Kashyap said that the Home Minister Rajnath Singh was apprised of failure of law and order machinery in the state in last few months. "There is a general sense of lawlessness in the state," Mr Kashyap alleged. Himachal Pradesh goes to the polls by November-December this year along with Gujarat.
