PM to hold high-level meeting on FDI today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to hold a high-level meeting here this evening to take a review of foreign direct investment policy. The meeting will be attended by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman and top officers of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion(DIPP), and other departments concerned, according to officials. After the recent abolition of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board(FIPB), FDI proposals were now being cleared by the departments concerned, and DIPP is the nodal ministry for it. The agenda of today's meeting is taking stock of the steps taken to ease foreign investment in the country and also discuss further reforms in several sectors to attract more investment. The government is likely to discuss further relaxing investment norms in retail and constructions etc. FDI ruled were relaxed in defence, civil aviation, construction and real estate last year.
