VHP holds protest against Amarnath attack; demands Prez rule

New Delhi: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) today staged a protest here against the terror attack on the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims and urged for the dismissal of Mehbooba Mufti led J&K Government and demanded the imposition of President's Rule. "This attack is the result of the soft attitude of the BJP-PDP government. Our experiment to go with the PDP has failed. There is a need to rethink this strategy. Not much can be done in the state given the current tumult. The state government should be sacked immediately and the state be put under President's Rule. Indian army must take charge," VHP international joint general secretary Surendra Jain said in a protest held here at the Jantar Mantar. Mr Jain said that he personally met Ms Mufti and conveyed his concern about the safety of the devotees, but it was not heeded. "The attack reflects gross intelligence failure." "I requested to the state government for handing over the security of the entire yatra route to the Indian army but it was not heeded," he said. "VHP in strong words condemns attacks on Amarnath pilgrims. Ms Mufti's Government has failed to provide security to the Hindu pilgrims. It should be sacked," Mr Jain said. Seven pilgrims, including five women, were killed and 21 others injured on militant attack in south Kashmir district of Anantnag late on Monday. Mr Jain pressed that the attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims was not only on the pilgrims but also on the beliefs of Hindu society, on the integrity of India and on the faith of Kashmir administration, on whose trust the Amarnath pilgrims from across the country went on a tough journey.
