Mahila Congress flays 10 ex MLAs for switching over side, says trend not good for state politics

Panaji,) Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho on Friday condemned the act of ten Congress MLAs quitting the party and joining ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said the trend started by the BJP was not good for politics in the state. Addressing a press conference at party state headquarters in the city, Pradesh Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho said people in the state had started questioning the act of the MLAs who had ditched the party and argued that the incident had proved that BJP Government was discriminating in development works in the constituencies represented by opposition MLAs.

'The entire state is questioning their act saying have they gone to the BJP for development of their constituencies or self-development. If it is not for self development then why did Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald not go along with them?. Why is he fighting for the development of his constituency?....The Congress MLAs joining BJP proves that the ruling party was discriminating development in the constituencies of opposition MLAs,' she said. Stating that the MLAs had not ditched the Congress party but the mandate of the people, Ms Coutino claimed that had the MLAs not got ticket from Congress party to contest assembly elections in 2017, they would nave have been able to get elected. She said with the incident Congress party would get more strengthened with grass root level workers and gave clarion call to like-minded people come forward and build up the party. Stating that the MLAs who had deserted Congress had dug their own grave, the Congress leader said the opposition was not going to shy away from its responsibility. She mocked the BJP-led government saying the government which was unable to provide proper roads and water was talking of development in constituencies.
