NIA seizes arms, ammunition belonging to insurgent group in Manipur

New Delhi, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition, during a search operation conducted at Lamlai in Imphal East in Manipur. According to NIA, the probe agency team recovered AK 56 rifle along with magazines and 180 live round, foreign made Pistols hand grenade and five pairs of camouflage uniforms. "It is believed that the recovered arms and ammunition belong to associates of self-styled Chairman of KCP (PWG) Moirangthem Rana Meitei alias Paikhomba," the NIA said in statement.

The case was re-registered under section 17, 18, 20 & 21 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The case relates to the criminal conspiracy hatched by cadres of proscribed organisation Kangleipak Communist party (PWG) Manipur to extort money from local people, state government departments, schools, institutions for KCP (PWG) and for further their terror activities in the State. Earlier, the probing agency has already arrested and charge-sheeted four accused persons namely Laishram Ranjit Meitei alias Tamnganba, Khumanthem Naobicha Singh alias Jack , Thoudam Chaothoi Singh Moirangthem Rana Meitei alias Paikhomba.
