Rajiv Gandhi was on an official visit aboard Viraat : Cong

New Delhi, Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his claim that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi used Indian Navy's INS Viraat as a "personal taxi" for a family vacation, the Congress on Thursday asserted that the late PM was on an official visit aboard INS Viraat and charged the PM using 'lies' to fight elections. Addressing a press conference here at the AICC headquarters Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said,'the PM is a "serial liar" who talked about late Rajiv Gandhi and said something which was a lie and not based on reality as retired Indian navy Vice Admiral Vinod Pasricha has clarified the fact that former PM Rajiv Gandhi was on an official visit that time and not a vacation.' Charging the PM of resorting to 'lies' to fight elections, Mr Khera said,'when it comes to facts, they do not matter to the PM. Moreover, he lacks achievements to talk about and is running low on real issues to fight polls.'

The Congress leader also asked PM to name the people he takes on foreign trips. Attacking the PM on his comments against former PM Rajiv Gandhi , AICC spokesperson Abhishek manu Singhvi said that PM is stooping low and talking about something that happened 30 year ago , which was an official visit of the then PM.' He said that Mr Modi supports the same party who's government had downgraded Rajiv Gandhi's security back in 1989. He had also questioned as to who is to be held responsible for Rajiv Gandhi's assasination , further allegeing that the then government refused additional security to Mr Gandhi despite inputs from the intelligence. Mr Singhvi said that when a PM is on an official trip only those people who's name is in the official list can accompany him. Earlier, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel said that abusing a martyred Prime Minister is clearly the sign of cowardice. Rajiv Gandhi lost his life is no longer here to answer the baseless allegations and abuses which are being heaped on him. 'Abusing a martyred Prime Minister is the sign of ultimate cowardice," Mr Ahmad Patel had said in a tweet.
