Mayawati to celebrate 63rd bday in Lucknow, Delhi; another oppn unity function on cards

Lucknow: The city of Nawabs, which has already turned blue, the official colour of the Bahujan Samaj Party, would witness another grand opposition unity function on the 63rd birthday celebration of BSP chief Mayawati on Tuesday. On January 12, Samajwadi Party and BSP had announced their historic alliance here and now it is time for the second gala show of Opposition unity on January 15, on the auspicious Makarsankranti. The city has turned blue and hoardings have come up on the proposed Mahagathbandan of SP and BSP along with the birthday celebrations of the BSP chief. Ms Mayawati, who turns 63 on January 15, shares her birthday with SP MP from Kannauj Dimple Yadav, wife of SP president Akhilesh Yadav, who will celebrate her 41st. The BSP chief will celebrate her birthday in the presence of senior party and opposition leaders. She will address a press conference in Lucknow at 1100 hrs on Tuesday, an official BSP release said here on Monday. Following the announcement of ghatbandhan, hoardings have sprang up in the state capital carrying pictures of BSP president Mayawati and SP president Akhilesh Yadav, reading "Satya Pareshan Ho Sakta Hai, Parajit nahi (Honesty can face problem, but cannot be defeated)". It also has a slogan of Akhilesh Yadav saying" Hamare pass gathbandhan Hai, BJP ke pass CBI (We have the alliance, BJP has CBI)".

Top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi would greet her in Delhi while Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and RJD's face and former deputy chief minister, Tejaswi Yadav, will present her a bouquet in Lucknow. Rahul Gandhi, who's on a tour of UAE, is likely to wish Mayawati , after his return from Dubai. Leaders from SP, RLD, INLD Janata Dal (Secular), Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) and other regional parties and other smaller parties would be invited for the birthday celebrations. Former Chhattisgarh CM Ajit Jogi, along with party legislators from Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisghar and MP would also join in the celebrations either in Lucknow or New Delhi. Ms Mayawati is expected to celebrate her birthday on Tuesday morning here and later leave for the National Capital. Sources here on Monday said that after the Mahagathbandan, both the SP and BSP party cadres may jointly celebrate Behenji's birthday at the district level and the celebrations will witness presence of top leaders from the Opposition camp. It was the RJD chief, Lalu Yadav, Tejaswi's father who had first initiated the idea of an SP-BSP alliance before 2017 Assembly elections. Now his son, Tejaswi, was in Lucknow from Patna to greet both the leaders. Sources said BSP leaders from all over the country have been called to Lucknow for the celebrations which will be observed as ' Jankalyankari Diwas' as done in the past. After losing 2007 Assembly election, BSP has been celebrating Mayawati's birthday as 'Jankalyankari Diwas'. "The party leaders help the needy, poor and handicapped. They also visit Dalit villages and hospitals to distribute fruits and blankets," said a senior BSP leader. Mayawati would also release a party calendar and a new edition of 'A Travelogue of my Struggle Ridden Life and BSP movement- Vol 14', penned by her.
