Varanasi/Azamgarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing three public rallies in Uttar Pradesh this weekend as a part of the BJP's plans to give a fillip to its electoral prospects in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. In Azamgarh, the strong belt of the Samajwadi Party where its patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav is the Lok Sabha member from, Mr Modi on Saturday will speak on the backward politics of the BJP. As Mr Yadav has announced that he was moving to Mainpuri in 2019 elections, hence, the BJP sees a good option to wrest the seat from the SP. The PM is slated to address the second public meeting in his Varanasi constituency at Raja Talab area on Saturday evening to dedicate projects and schemes worth over Rs 900 crore.
Mr Modi will informally launch his campaign from Raja Talab in Varanasi, the same place he did it in 2014. The last public meeting would be held at Mirzapur, the constituency of Apna Dal president and Union Minister Anupriya Patel, to inaugurate the decade-old Bansagar irrigation project. Mirzapur is also a backward dominated area along with a large number of Dalits. According to a report from Azamgarh, the PM will lay the foundation for the Purvanchal Expressway and address a public meeting at Manduri airstrip. "The Prime Minister is expected to reach Azamgarh from Varanasi on an IAF chopper at around 1430 hrs and stay for around 75 minutes during which he will lay the foundation of the 340 kilometer-long Purvanchal Expressway and address a public meeting," BJP general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak, who is camping in Azamgarh, said on Friday.
More than one lakh people are expected to attend the public rally for which all the arrangements have been made. Water proof tents have been erected for the PM's dais due to monsoon. Another report from Varanasi said that the PM is likely to address the public meeting at Raja Talab at around 1630 hrs where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation of 30 projects worth over Rs 900 crores. In the late evening, the PM will meet intellectuals of Kashi at the DLW guest house and will stay the night there. On the Sunday morning, Mr Modi will meet the senior party leaders at the guest house and later will fly to Mirzapur.
