Manish Tewari writes to PM for Banga-Anandpur Sahib-Naina Devi road

Jalandhar: Senior Congress leader and Sri Anandpur Sahib MP Manish Tewari has raised the issue of the construction of Banga-Anandpur Sahib-Naina Devi road with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed his helplessness on the matter. In a letter to Mr Modi, the Congress MP pointed out the importance of the road that connects two holy Sikh places-- Shri Harmandir Sahib Amritsar and Takhat Keshgarh Sahib, in Anandpur Sahib. This road further goes up to the holy shrine of Naina Devi. He wrote to Mr Modi that before the parliamentary elections, Mr Gadkari had laid the foundation stone for the road to make it four-lane in February 2019. However, he said, later it was learnt that this was "in principle" national highway only. He said when he met the Minister again, he was told that only the Prime Minister can get it sanctioned.

Urging the Prime Minister to issue instructions for the construction of the road for which foundation stone had been laid in February, Mr Tewari said this road becomes more important as state government is celebrating the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and celebrations are being planned on a grand scale. He said it will be in the best interest of the pilgrims and the devotees if the road is constructed on the top priority so that people paying obeisance on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary celebrations can commute to Takaht Keshgarh Sahib also without any difficulty.
