Two killed, 75 injured as massive storm hits Nepal

Kathmandu, At least two people were killed and 75 others wounded when a strong storm hit the Kailali and Kanchanpur districts of southwest Nepal late on Thurday night. Prem Kumar Rai, a secretary at the Home Affairs Ministry, told that the search and rescue operations are underway, adding that the number of those affected by the disaster might increase. The windstorm has left a trail of destruction along its way with thatched houses feeling the brunt of the disaster. However, a detailed report on the extent of damages caused by the storm is yet to be ascertained, Kathmandu Post said in a report. "The local administration has already been involved in rescue operations.

According to the officials, fallen trees and electrical poles have blocked roads hindering rescue efforts. Exact details of the damage caused by the storm are yet to be determined," Yagya Raj Bohara, the chief officer at the Kailali district said, adding that the storm has also caused damage to the houses and public and private vehicles. Likewise, electricity poles have also been uprooted in the storm-hit areas which have caused in the disruption of electricity in various parts of the district, while uprooted trees have obstructed vehicular movement at various road sections. Police informed that they rescued passengers of a microbus that was crushed by a tree that fell during the storm at Dhunge Bazar in Dhangadi. The injured were rushed to a nearby medical facility.
