Smog looms over Delhi, air quality better than 2016

New Delhi:Supreme Court order to ban fire crackers on Deepawali improved the air quality of the national capital on Friday, though slightly, while a thick layer of smog engulfed the city today.
According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), air monitoring system of the Ministry of Earth Science, particulate matter (PM)10 and 2.5, the two deadliest components of air pollution, registered a moderate fall and stood at 571g/m3 and 424g/m3, around two-and-a-half and two times higher than the prescribed limit.
In 2016, the day after Diwali, PM10 levels were recorded at severe level of 836.1g/m3 (over eight times the safe limit) and PM2.5 at 624.2g/m3 (nearly 10 times the safe limit).
