644 kg firecrackers seized from Sadar Bazar and two places in North Delhi

New Delhi, Delhi Police has seized around 625 kg of firecrackers from a shop in Sadar Bazar market, Old Delhi, the police said on Sunday. According to police, one Ravinder was in possession of the firecrackers/explosive items at a shop near the Qutub Road parking, Sadar Bazar. The police acted on a secret information regarding the stocking of such amount of firecrackers and accordingly, went ahead. Accordingly on the basis of a statement and the recovery made by the police, a case under the Explosive Act has been registered, while probe was on to find out the source of these crackers. 'A head constable, who was on patrolling duty on Saturday received an information about stocking of fire crackers/explosive items at a shop near Qutub Road Parking, in Sadar Bazar, said Deputy Commissioner of Police North Delhi Nupur Prasad, adding that following the information a raid was conducted.'

Apart from this, 11.1 kg and 7.9 kg of firecrackers were also seized by the police from Subzi Mandi and Burari area respectively, making it a total of 644 kg. The raid and seizure was conducted in view of the recent order from Supreme Court on sale of old firecrackers in Delhi. Only those who have licence to sell green crackers can sell, and Delhi Police will go as per the SC order on use and sale of firecrackers. As per the apex court, only green crackers could be used in the National Capital Region. Conventional firecrackers are not allowed keeping in view the rising air pollution, and using regular firecrackers will be illegal.
