Sensex surges by 660 pts during week


Mumbai: For the first time in the history, the equity market breached 32K level to 32,020.75, spurting by 660 points during the week ended yesterday on expectations of interest rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) next month after latest data showed that retail inflation has eased to a record in June. The Sensex settled above the psychological 32,000 level after alternately swinging above and below that level during the week. First four trading session, the BSE Sensex remained positive. In four day's the sensex posted a massive gain of 675. Seeing the journey of the market, on Monday sensex advanced by 355 points. On Thursday, it touched 32K level to 32,037.38, a life-time-high, with 32,019.02 day's high. Key benchmark indices settled with small losses in a quiet session on Friday as the BSE Sensex, fell by 16.63 points at 32,020.75. Broader market trailed large caps. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index jumped 1.64 pc. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index surged 0.49%. Both these indices underperformed the Sensex.
