Blast in Vizag steel plant; 2 workers injured

Visakhapatnam :  Two workers suffered severe burn injuries in a blast in the Steel melt shop 2 of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP) here late last evening. According to VSP officials here today, the accident took place when water from a cooling pipeline reportedly spilled onto liquid steel during steel-making process. Senior foreman M Raja Rao, 52, and contract worker Sumon Roy, 34, were stated to have received 65 to 70 per cent burn injuries. The two workers were taken to the Steel Plant General Hospital and later shifted to a corporate hospital in the smart city where their condition was stated to be critical. Agitated workers stopped work for some time. Visakha Steel Employees’ Congress deputy general secretary N Ramachandra Rao demanded a probe into the incident.
