download (95)Lucknow, Jul 8-The much-hyped Mass contact programme of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh has failed to take off as it is yet to reach the targeted audience despite the campaign entering its second leg. A senior leader in the party said here today that despite several meetings and pep talk by party’s state president Dr Laxmi Kant Bajpai, the much touted maha sampark abhiyan (mass contact programme) has so far failed to get proper response. “The workers have so far failed to reach the targeted members and get their forms signed by new members,” the leaders said. During the mass membership drive, the BJP had made over 1.80 crore new members digitally. The leaders of the group, who had made 100 members, is supposed to meet these new members and make them fill a membership form. He will give new members a congratulatory letter from BJP national president Amit Shah, a brochure talking about ideology og BJP and another leaflet containing achievements of the Modi government. “We have got a feed back which suggests that as farmers are now busy with the sowing of paddy crop their availability is not that regular. Moreover, as it takes at least 10 minutes for each member to fill form and understand what we expect from him, the speed is of contact programme is slow,” the leader said adding that workers have been asked to speed up the process,'' Mr Bajpai said. The ‘Mahasampark Abhiyan’ was launched on May 24 to contact around 1.8 crore new members. “A special sampark abhiyan was run in the state from June 16 to 26. The next special drive commenced from July 6 to 10 in which all active members were asked to visit new members. What has made BJP leaders shaky is that Amit Shah, along with other senior leaders would review Maha Sampark abhiyan' on July 11 in Kanpur. All the national executive members from UP, national party office- bearers, state office bearers, regional presidents and organisation secretaries and mahasampark chiefs, national office bearers of the cells, MPs, Legislators, Mayors, district presidents and others have been invited for the meeting. “This will be an eight-hour long meeting in which party leaders will present the progress report on the ‘Mahasampark Abhiyan’,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
