Lucknow : Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) today held massive demonstrations inside and outside the state legislature over the 'deteriorating law and order' and other issues in Uttar Pradesh. While police had to resort to lathicharge and used water cannon on the BJP protesters in front of the state Assembly, the legislators on the other hand blocked normal proceedings in both houses of the state legislature forcing it for day long adjournments. BJP leaders have termed the police action on the peaceful demonstrators as 'barbaric' and alleged that the Samajwadi Party government has tried to crush the annoyance of the people. The agitation outside the legislature was led by state party president Keshav Prasad Maurya which went violent when security personnel did not allow them to gherao the vidhan sabha. The agitators threw stones on the police and in return the security personnel resort to lathicharge and used water cannon against them.
The BJP protesters which included several senior leaders and state office bearers where not allowed to come out of the state party office which is situated just in front of the vidhan bhawan. Later, Mr Maurya claimed that several party workers including some women were injured in the police action. “The law and order in the state is in shambles. The present government has failed to bring the crime rate under control. To protest government’s failure the BJP held this demonstration," he added. Meanwhile, both the houses of the state legislature was adjourned following pandemonium by the BJP members. In the Assembly, the BJP members squatted in the well of the house even before the house was set to start and continuously raised slogans and waved banners and posters. The Assembly was first adjourned till 1220 hrs and later it was adjourned for the day after completing the agenda including approving of the supplementary budget and passing three Bills. In the legislative council, the BJP members were on their toes since morning and the house was adjourned till 1200 hrs and later for the day.
