Kannur:The dawn-to dusk hartal called by BJP/RSS to protest over the death of RSS local leader C Biju (34), was total in the district today. No untoward incidents reported so far from Kannur district and Mahe region. The strike has affected normal life across the district, as all the shops and establishments, including banks, education institutions were remain closed. The plying of buses including KSRTC is completely stopped and partially two wheeler and other private vehicles were plying. Tense situation prevails in Kannur, and police said the situation is under control . Large scale of police force is deployed across the district and NH 17, while consider the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is attending the functions at Kannur and Kasargod district. Chief Minister inaugurated the 54th NGO Union State conference at Dinesh auditorium in the morning and he would attend for the title deed distribution at Municipal town hall at Kanhanghad around 1400 hrs. RSS is organised a protest march from Talap district office to Kannur old bus stand. Police cordoned the protest march from the beginning. The body of C Biju would be cremated at Kakkanpara public crematorium by afternoon, after the Post mortem at Pariyaram Medical College hospital. The body is kept at Payyanur town to pay the homage to his friends and people from all walks of life. Talking to media persons on the side lines of function at Dinesh Auditorium, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijyan said the murder of Biju is unfortunate and it is an isolated incident of violence in Kannur district. Chief Minister also added that the yesterday's incident should not become a hindrance for the functioning to maintain peaceful atmosphere in Kannur district. The police should arrest all the accused in this case and should take necessary actions to prevent the spread of violence in any where. Meanwhile, Police registered case against seven unidentified persons, in connection with yesterday's murder of Choorakad Biju, RSS Ramanthaly Mandalam Karya vahak and a painting worker, by alleged CPI(M) activists at Palakkode near Pazhayangadi. His body found on the road side with cut injury at neck in an alleged attack by a gang came on car and first hit to his motor bike. When he fell down, the assailants attack with lethal weapons and escaped in the same car. Biju was on the way to his house from Pazhayangadi railway station . However, he was the 12th accused under conspiracy angle in the DYFI activist Dhanaraj murder case on July 11,2016 and he was out on bail in this case for the last few days. CPI(M) denied the role of the party in this murder and demanded a comprehensive probe to arrest the real accused. This is the eighth murder in the district, including five BJP/RSS and three CPI(M) workers in the political violence within eleven months.
