fire-s-650_070715083912Lucknow, Jul 7- A mother of a journalist was allegedly burnt to death by two policemen in Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh. The incident had occurred yesterday at Kothi police station while the woman Ritu Dwivedi died at the government hospital here this morning. This was the second case of police atrocities against the fourth estate in UP. On June 1, a journalist was burnt to death by police in Shahjahanpur. UP minister Ram Murti Singh Verma's and some policemen were made accused in the Journalist Jagender Singh's case but no arrest had been made so far. Opposition political parties in UP has demanded action against the Superintendent of Police of Barabanki besides adequate compensation for the family. In her dying declaration before the magistrate, the victim has demanded Capital Punishment for the accused policemen--- a SO and a Sub-inspector of the Kothi police station. She also charged that the policemen tried to rape her and when she fled ,the policemen poured kerosine on her and burnt her. Santosh, a scribe and son of the victim, told UNI here today that it is unfortunate that after an FIR has been registered against the accused policemen they were yet to be arrested. Both the policemen have been suspended yesterday. " The police was biased against us and they even put my father in the police lock up for 24 hours without any evidence. My mother was also tortured by the police leading to her death," he alleged. Meanwhile, UP BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak demanded strict action against the policemen including suspension of the SP of Barabanki. " UP government has failed to have its control on the police and now even the media persons and their family members are being attacked by the police," he added. UP Congress president Nirmal Khatri too criticised the act of the UP police and demanded action against the erring policemen.
