Assam CM continues tour of flood-hit areas


Guwahati : The flood situation in Assam remained grave as Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal continued his visit to affected areas for the second day today. More than 16 lakh population in 22 districts of the state have been affected by floods with death toll at 15 so far. Surging waters of all major rivers have been wrecking havoc across eastern, western, central and northern Assam for more than 10 days. The Brahmaputra river was flowing over the danger level across the state.Over 2 lakh people are sheltered in relief camps in different parts. Meanwhile, Mr Sonowal is visiting Dhubri and other parts of western Assam today. He will be meeting affected people at relief camps and review the prevailing situation with top officials. Other ministers and MLAs are also visiting other affected parts on the instructions of Mr Sonowal. Union Home minister Rajnath Singh is slated to visit the state tomorrow.
