Arunachal Pradesh crisis: Congress delegation meets Pranab

Against the backdrop of rebel Congress leader Kalikho Pul's claim for formation of new Government in Arunachal Pradesh, a Congress delegation called on President Pranab Mukherjee here this evening to apprise him of political development in the the President ruled North Eastern state. Addressing mediapersons outside the Rashtrapati Bhawan after the meeting, party leader Kapil Sibal said, "We brought in the President to speed up what is happening in Arunachal Pradesh". "We believe that Arunachal Pradesh Governor has acted out of line..,..Kalikho Pul can not been sworn in", the former Union Law and Justice Minister said. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court refused to pass an order to restrain State Governor J P Rajkhowa from swearing in a new government. Hearing the pleas from the Congress leaders, the apex court also turned down the prayer for issuing stay order for maintaining status quo in the political crisis-hit state till the verdict on the petition was pending before it. Yesterday in Arunachal Pradesh, Mr Pul met Mr Rajkhowa alongwith 31 MLAs and staked claim for formation of new government.
